Advertorial report

UAL Level 2, Creative Media

Sound & Vision Programme / Media Campaign Project

Advertorial for Sunday colour supplement

Outline / introduction:

You are to create an Advertorial for your Media campaign. This Advertorial will involve the use of materials planned for your other media campaign elements and will fit in and support the overall theme. You will need to write all copy and collect all materials and build this DPS (Double page Spread).

You will then need to research the campaign from an editorial or story telling angle and develop way of how to promote your campaign, recognizing a relevant target market and how to attract and inform it in a press colour supplement with your idea!

The task:

Create an Advertorial for your Media campaign, get the idea approved by a tutor, write the copy, develop a design layout based on the Sunday Colour supplement magazine, produce the paperwork for production and build the final double page in Photoshop, then deliver it to an audience, You will do this simply via a web delivery and a printout.

What you need to submit for assessment:

The final DPS in print, on-line with a blog report - and a simple evaluation of what you did.

You will need to show all ideas you used and explain how you arrived at them!

All work is to go on the One-Drive with the final video.

Supporting report on your blog:

The following is the report template for you Advertorial project:

Project title: 3,2,1,GO (Smash ultimate

Research for your Advertorial: Show 5 sources you used to conclude your research. Use primary and secondary sources.

Primary: Interview, focus groups
I will interview Luke inns
Secondary: Web, Youtube, Books/magazine

Target Audience: Explain whom the product is intended for (profile).

Smash ultimate's target audience is mainly teens and young adults aged 12-20, but is generally everyone as people in tournaments can exceed this age group.

The nationality of my target audience is american/british as that's where the majority of smash ultimate players/streamers come from.

Documentary / Journalism story development: Demonstrate the process of writing the Advertorial including Advertorial Headline, opening statement and structure of the overall Advertorial in DPS form.

The opening statement had to be catchy as to be able to grab the readers attention without scaring of potential buyers/players.

I chose to go with the line you hear whenever a match/battle starts in ultimate and that is 3,2,1 GO...

As it is that is the most recognized piece of dialog from the franchise.

Published idea in the context of the Media Campaign idea: Explain the narrative and representation of your Editorial

The representation is that the game is easy and fun for all to play, with an added difficulty and adventure for more experienced players meaning there is no skill cap or limit.

It's main focus is to bring everyone together with a sense of nostalgia as you can fight as your favourite character from nintendo games which brings attention to some of the older games that otherwise people may not have heard of before

Published production: What you did to create the final images and materials (assets) for the DPS in Photoshop.

Video post-production: What you did to create the final DPS in Photoshop.

created using adobe software modifying the size and style of mages and text.

Upload onto website + print out.

Testing of the Advertorial in situ: Test against your target audience + feedback.

Against my target audience and feeback my dps performed well with only a few issues such as resizing text and images and making sure the font was legible.

One of the most common issues with my DPS was it was cluttered making it hard to read, to fix this i resized images and changed the font and colouring of text so no matter where it was you could read the text.

Which helps users of the DPS who don't have the best eyesight.

Evaluation: How successful was the outcome.

The outcome i wanted to achieve with my DPS was to be informative about the game while being persuasive by convincing readers to purchase the game.

My DPS included all the information necessary without being too hard to understand (as not all people will understand the official terminology) so i simplified my language without being too unprofessional/casual.

When it came to it's persuasive capabilities my DPS was convincing to an extent but due to time and tech/restrictions i wasnt able to go as in depth as i would've liked to as i only scratched the surface of SSBU but with the combination of images and text in the official smash bros font made for an very effective piece at being persuasive to people not experienced with the franchise before.

If i could do thing differently next time this is what i'd do

  1. Manage my time better (by setting up a script/schedule
  2. Help others less: During the DPS phase of this campaign i was too invested in helping my friend shay often leading to things not being done to the full extent.
  3. Go more in-depth with information: give a better insight by adding more information about the game in my dps and viral video]
  4. Get gameplay into my viral video: Due to not owning the game this was more difficult but the video would be well more effective at achieving it's purpose if gameplay was included.
  5. Put more effort in: Sometimes i can agree my work ethic was quite relaxed so if i redone this i would be more focused and work at an even higher standard/pace.
